#ThirstyThursday is a new installment where I sit down with a cup of coffee and talk all things books! Feel free to leave comments on what you’d like to see here as well.
The Stephanie Plum series is probably my favourite series right now. This may have something to do with just finished Ten Big Ones and still not being over it, but it is a very strong and hilarious series.
Stephanie Plum is a bounty hunter. Sure that sounds interesting, but what makes it so great is that she’s a really really bad bounty hunter. One of these days I’m going to read the series again and keep track of how many times she loses someone she’s supposed to pick up. It’s always interesting reasons for losing someone. I often have tears in my eyes from laughing so hard when she tries to be a bounty hunter.
The characters are perfect. Stephanie’s family is train wreck. Her friends are fantastic. Her love life is…. complicated. Every relationship she has in the books are addicting and realistic.
There’s Joe, whom she’s known since she was a child and has ~~history~~ with. She has an on again off again relationship with him and I highly doubt they’ll ever stay on for more than four months. But then there’s Ranger. A guy that she trusts but is scared of because he’s extremely mysterious. Every book we learn one more thing about Ranger it seems. Maybe in book 50 we’ll know if he actually has emotions.
With any love triangle, everyone picks a side. There is Cupcake (Joe) and Babe (Ranger) and if you’ve read any of the books, you’d understand. I’m Babe all the way, but to each their own.
I enjoy these books because it’s mystery but not creepy- usually. I can read these books at 5 in the morning and not have nightmares. They are light on the mystery and heavy on the fun. Every book is different though. Some are heavier on the mystery and have a creepy plot but others are a little mystery and a lot of laughs. I enjoy all of them. I have not run into a Stephanie Plum novel that I didn’t love.
One thing I love about this series is that it doesn’t have to go in order to be understood. I actually started this series with book 5 and then skipped to 15 and 17 and nothing was given away. I did go back and now am reading in order, but it’s nice to know that I can buy them out of order and read them when I get time. (I’ve spoiled myself with other books because I bought a book further in the series and the back gave away parts of other books).
This series is everything I love in books: good plots, awesome characters, great writing. I recommend them to basically everyone.
Have you read any Stephanie Plum? What is your favourite book in the series? Are you Cupcake or Babe?
