#ThirstyThursday is a new installment where I sit down with a cup of coffee and talk all things books! Feel free to leave comments on what you’d like to see here as well.
I asked my boyfriend “give me a topic” and he said “pants” so I’m rolling with it.
Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants is everything I look for in a series, in books in general, and in the YA genre.
Sisterhood series: I love this series because the characters grow. Not only in age but also as characters. Bridget from the first book is vastly different than the second book which is totally different than the first book. I loved her in all of them which shows that her character development was written well. I love this series because Bridget, Tibby, Carmen, and Lena were all different. You could identify who was whom. There are too many books where there is a group of girl friends that need each other to make the book because the characters are all basically the same character with different names. I love this series because it can be read at 14 years old when I first read it and 20 years old when I plan on reading it again soon.
Sisterhood books in general: I love the books in general because they have pretty colorful covers. That shouldn’t really be a reason but it is so we’re going with it. I love these books because all the girls have their own problems, especially in the first book, and they are there for each other even though they are apart. I love these books because every character is relate able. There is always a part of every book that breaks your heart and makes you want to hug that particular character. Again, the character development is so strong is all of these.
Sisterhood in the YA genre: There isn’t any insta-love. (Lena and Kostos don’t count because she tried not to date him because well reasons). There are no annoying love triangles. (Disclaimer: I like love triangles if they are good but most don’t tear out my heart.) But there weren’t any in the books. I’ve read too many YA books where the MC secretly hates her girl friends or thinks that “”other girls”” are obviously not as good as her and if they are better than they are definitely hated. Tibby, Lena, Carmen, and Bridget all love each other. They don’t secretly hate each other. They don’t talk bad about each other. Strong female characters loving other strong female characters; how can you not get behind that?
Have you read any of these books? Favourite character? Favourite book in the series? Also let me know what you’d like to see next week!
